Sun Circle

“How about a swarm of puffer fish hovering around a sun dial?” asked my friend Heather when we were discussing things I could paint. Well, that’s right down my alley, I thought, and set out to work on this piece. The fish depicted here are so-called figure 8-puffers, common in the pet fish trade (though they’re much smaller in real life). I used to have them back in my fish keeping days. What I recalled only after the painting is that I actually had a dream where I saw one of them at this size floating through my mother’s flower garden. I guess that memory found its way back to the surface here.
